Community driven, local transport solution

The Challenge

Expensive & difficult to deploy

Local authorities face growing pressure to deliver transport that is affordable, reliable, and sustainable. Whilst delivering against net-zero targets and being simple to deploy in outlying cities, towns and villages.

Traditional heavy rail has many strengths, but it can be complex and costly to deploy for lower density rural and suburban routes. Rising energy prices, high operating costs, and the urgent need to reduce emissions make finding new solutions more important than ever.

Our Solution

Reimaging local transport

The Greenway Initiative is reimaging local transport with Very Light Rail (VLR), by developing new rail and transport technologies that can be deployed faster to reduce carbon emissions and help connect communities by encouraging more people onto our railways.

Deploy a simpler transport solution that encourages increased use of our existing mainline network – and give a second life to forgotten railway lines and stations. We support the urgent, collective need to tackle the climate crisis and to reach net zero.

  • Promoting sustainable, healthy and accessible travel
  • Bringing communities together and supporting diversity and inclusion

The Benefit

Investing in sustainable local rail brings long-term value

Enhancing transport links not only elevates quality of life but also attracts investment and strengthens local economies.

The re-opening of the transport line itself will provide direct employment, contributing permanently to the local workforce and serving to promote further growth in the area.

Better transport infrastructure creates jobs both in the construction stage and operational stage, stimulates local businesses through easy movement of goods and people, and increases property values in the vicinity of transport nodes, making the region more attractive for investment.

Increased Economic Activity

Thriving businesses, increased visitation, and improved transport connectivity drive economic growth across the board.

Reduced Vacant Properties

Regenerated local economy reduces vacancies within the high street property stock, generating more vibrant local communities.

Boosted Tourism

Improved transport infrastructure allows for easier tourist access and spending, boosting local economies.

Research & Development Investment

Improved connectivity transport hubs yield greater investment pull of innovation and technology, bringing new opportunities to lead.

Increased High Street Footfall

Better transport links deliver higher volumes into town and city centers, benefiting the local economy and driving retail growth.

Land Value Uplift

Improved infrastructure raises land value, benefitting owners and driving further development.
